This web site was inspired by a friend and ex-classmate of mine who, upon hearing that I’d be doing grad school in Europe, remarked, “Cool! So you’ll be blogging, right?”

I wasn’t going to, but his comment gave birth to the blog you see here.

This blog serves as a personal archive of my adventures around the world, mostly in Europe. I truly believe that although a picture is worth a thousand words, photos need to be complemented with words in order to come to life. For me, it is important to document not only the circumstances under which photos were taken, but the feelings and emotions experienced at that particular instant, so that I can always look back and reflect on these moments frozen in time.

I generally travel by myself in Europe, and it is no hassle since transportation is so convenient! Occasionally I visit friends in different cities and travel with company, and it is a completely different experience from solo roaming. In any case, I love opening my eyes to the unknown, seeing the vast amount of diversity in such a small continent!

WHO IS ANNIE?

I am a 32-year-old Chinese-Canadian born in China, raised in Toronto, Canada, and currently living in Wuhan, China. My European adventures began when I took on post-graduate studies in a co-tutelle between France and Belgium from October 2010 to December 2013. You don’t need to know what a co-tutelle is; all that matters is that my location, during that period of time, toggled between Bordeaux, France and Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium. I finished my studies, went back to Toronto, didn’t succeed in finding a suitable job there, and somehow ended back in Europe under these unforeseen circumstances. From the end of 2014 to 2017, I worked in Glasgow, Scotland, UK (can you still say “Europe” though?) Since May 2018, I have been living and working in Wuhan after moving across seas to be with the man I love ❤

I work as a science writer and there are 5 hobbies that I am passionate about outside of work: travelling, photography, writing, singing, and food. This blog encompasses the first three.

Things I like and enjoy, other than the aforementioned items, include Doraemon, tea, music of JJ Lin and Jay Chou, playing the flute and guitar, The Little Prince, books by Mitch Albom, Chinese, Converse shoes, hippos, the smell of raw corn and coffee beans (separately), notebooks (the paper kind) and stationery, broccoli, and cities with water.

      

Things I dislike include eggplants, celery, seminars, people who don’t finish what they are saying, make-up, politics, and gossip. I don’t hate things (or I try not to). Whenever I use the word “hate”, I don’t mean it. I really ought to say “dislike”.
